A trip to Germany. It's an amazing country, isn't it? We know it as a sausage and beer producing country. Did you know what else Germany is famous for? She is also known for her islands, in particular, they will be discussed. There are about ten of them.:
1. Rugen;
2. Uzedom;
3. Femarn;
4. Sylt;
5. Fer;
6. Pelworm;
7. Pele;
8. Borkum;
9. Norderney;
10. Amrum.
I'm going to try to tell you more about the largest island in Germany, namely Rügen.
Area: 926 sq. m.
Location: located in the Baltic Sea, part of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The island part is very fragmented, which is why it has many capes and spits, as well as peninsulas. Among them, the most famous is Wittow (40 km. sq.), it is located in the north of Rügen, which connects to Jasmund (30 km. sq.), known for its cliffs in the national park.
The coastline of Rügen is 580 km.
Population: 74 thousand people.
An interesting fact is that before the war it was a resort, young people left the skeleton in search of a better life, because of the economy, but after a large investment contribution to it, in our time it was restored and it became one of the most famous throughout Germany. There are rumors that it was the creation of parks there that caused quarrels between tourism organizations.
The history of its foundation: at first it was inhabited by an ancient tribe of ruins, after the death of their leader, the skeleton passed to the German government. It is also known that it was originally planned as a sanatorium resort during the Nazi rule.
Tourists usually get to it from the city of Stralsund, where the highway and railway pass.
Interesting places: in addition to the national park and many beaches, you can visit the aquarium or its peninsulas, or the observation deck, as well as the white cliffs (the same ones depicted in the painting by Karl Friedrich, the famous German artist), the hunting castle of the Borders, formerly a post, has a beautiful view of Rügen, the beach in Bink (here there are many wedding ceremonies).
Attractions: St. Mary's Monastery (1193), rural church in Landau (1312), holiday homes built in the 20th century. Agriculture and fishing are widespread on the island. Thanks to these crafts, the island is an export destination and is developing its economy well. Interestingly, it was only recently that scientists investigated that a large area of Rügen was flooded.
The best time to visit the island is from August to October.
