Skye Island
Skye is the largest island of the group of Inner Hebrides. It is located on the northwestern side of Scotland, representing the whole country in miniature. Translated Sky means « Tuman Island », which is true, since the island is often covered with thick fogs and the climate is wet with frequent precipitation. According to National Geographic magazine, Sky Island is one of the most beautiful islands on the planet.
On a small territory of the island, various landscapes with blue lakes, steep cliffs, hills, peat bogs, forests, waterfalls and ancient castles appear in all its glory. Palm trees, rhodendrons grow here. Exciting landscapes together with ancient castles are the basis of romantic trips.
This is the fourth most populated island in the UK, with about 10,000 inhabitants. The largest settlement of the island – the city of Portry.
For the first time, the island of Sky was mentioned in the II century AD, which was captured on roadside stones and saved to this day. The highest point of the island – is the peak of Mount Kulin, rising 993 meters above sea level. The Kulin Mountains are called the Scottish Alps.
The architecture of the island consists of many castles. The most famous is Danvegan – the clan fortress of the Scottish MacLeod clan, representatives of this offspring still live in it, and at the same time it is open for tourists to visit. Family relics – Flag Fey and Chash Danwegan are stored here. The island's attractions also include four castles belonging to the heirs of the MacDonald.
The Island Life Museum, consisting of seven houses built in the 19th century, is located on the northern. It provides expositions of household items.
Sky Island is considered the birthplace of Talisker whiskey and the faithful dogs of the Sky Terrier breed themselves.
