Kamphaeng Phet

The ancient city of Kamphaengphet is located in the northern part of Thailand on the banks of the Ping River. It is part of the quiet province of Thailand, which has the same name. In translation, Kamphaengphet means "Diamond Walls". Kamphaengphet was built in the 15th century as a guard city of the ruling Sukhothai. The entire territory of the city is surrounded by a hexagonal wall and surrounded by a moat.

This city was considered a city of science and art, previously only representatives of the aristocracy lived here. Later, different clans began to live, but the city remained the same, majestic. Today, the tourist infrastructure is well developed here.

The entire territory is divided into two parts: the first consists of the Old Town, and the second, located five kilometers outside the city walls, includes the Arunyuk Historical Park.

The old Town houses many temples and the Kamphaengphet National Museum. The museum has a collection of statues of the deities Shiva, Lakshmi and Vishnu, as well as a collection of Siamese clock artifacts.

Wat Phranon and Wat Phra Kao are considered the most important temples of the surrounding area. They delight the eye with their architectural forms, rich interiors and religious decorations. In the middle there are statues of Buddha, decorated with precious stones. Further south is modern Kamphaeng Khet, where there are well-equipped hotels, shopping buildings and cozy parks.

Another attraction is the Arunyuk complex, which is the ruins of an ancient village that used to be the center of sectarians. Few buildings of those times have survived to this day. The buildings of the Wat Phra Si Iriyabot, Wat Phranon, and Wat Changrop temple complexes have been preserved. Here you can see the remaining parts of the reclining Buddha, and dilapidated statues of the deity in other poses.

Wat Changrop Monastery has preserved the remaining parts of the ruins of Chedi, flanked by laterite statues of elephants.

This historical complex is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

A trip to Kamphaeng Khet will appeal to ecotourism enthusiasts, because here the natural attractions, including the river, mountains and gardens, have created all the necessary conditions for recreation. The city is also called "green", "blooming".

Kamphaengphet includes connections between the new and the old, where tourists can enjoy comfortable hotel rooms, as well as a wonderful opportunity to explore ancient historical sites.
