Volzhskaya embankment
Volzhskaya Embankment is located between two central streets of the city - Mira Boulevard and Lenin Avenue. Local residents call the embankment a real decoration of the city of Yaroslavl. At the beginning of the lower tier of the embankment there is a park on Strelka, and it is often crowded.
History of creation
It begins in the 16th century, when the Yaroslavl Kremlin was built on what is now Prospekt Mira. In the 17th century, markets for traders and artisans began to appear on the banks of the Volga River, which later became known as merchant piers. In the 18th century, houses and churches gradually began to appear on the modern pier, which began to be called the Volzhskaya Embankment. It should be noted that the Volzhskaya embankment was not resistant to the rapid flow of the Volga, so in the middle of the 18th century, strengthening work began. Church workers began to stone one of the banks, but this was not enough.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the city authorities took measures to protect the Volzhskaya embankment - it was moved sufficiently away from the shore, providing reliable protection from the current. Significant for this place is the visit of Emperor Alexander the First, who, after seeing the neglected state of the Volga bank, gave instructions to reconstruct the embankment and clean up the banks of the Volga. Large-scale construction work began, during which several thousand workers and 1000 ships were involved, which transported cubic meters of earth, with the help of which the shore was leveled and strengthened. The Volzhskaya embankment was decorated with cast-iron fences, and hundreds of trees were planted and the famous gazebo was built, which is a favorite place for photographing the Volga. In the mid-20th century, finishing work was completed - the area was asphalted and granite tiles were laid, and many trees were planted.
Features of the embankment
Many historical buildings were built along the perimeter of the Volzhskaya embankment. The most important monument is the Volzhskaya Tower, which was previously one of the three parts of Zemlyanoy Posad ─ Yaroslavl Kremlin. For lovers of history and culture, there is also the Museum of the Metropolitan Chambers, where you can get a closer look at ancient Russian culture and art. A special place is occupied by the church, which, unfortunately, does not work, but is a unique architectural monument built in the genre of classicism. The embankment is also famous for the beauty of former residential buildings and estates of merchants who lived in different eras - the Kurakins' house, the Tikhomirovs' estate, the Kachurov's house, the Maslennikovs' house and many other houses. One of the interesting places is the museum, where you can see old clock mechanisms, bells and many other interesting exhibits.
We can talk about the Volzhskaya embankment for a very long time. This place is renowned for its extraordinary beauty and history, which imbues many of the buildings located in this beautiful location. If you come to Yaroslavl, you should visit and walk around the attraction.
