Preikestolen
The huge Prekestulen cliff is located in Norway, hanging over the sea bay of Luce Fjord by more than 600 meters. This bay was created by nature about 10,000 years ago. As a result of the retreat of the glaciers, a large crack appeared, which filled with water after a while, where the depth reaches 422 meters. The Precestoolen itself has a square, flat top with an area of 625 m2.
In translation, Prekestulen means "Pulpit of the preacher." It has also received other names, which sounds like "rostrum" or "pulpit".
The Prekestulen Cliff was discovered in the 19th century, and since that time it has not ceased to be a popular tourist destination. For this purpose, a special route has been set up, along which a bus takes everyone who wants to taste this area several times a day.
You can climb the cliff at the nearest parking place or mountain tourism association point, which can be reached by car, bus or ferry from the nearest city Stavanger. The ride will be about an hour.
Despite the fact that it only takes about 4 kilometers to walk, it will take about two hours to climb to the top of the cliff. The difficulty of climbing lies in the fact that the trail rises and falls more than once, sometimes being very steep. Throughout the ascent, there are a wide variety of mountain landscapes with wooded areas at the foot and mosses with lichens at the top.
Rising, the landscape of the surrounding area opens up to the view of incredible beauty. There are no fences at the top. Therefore, it is necessary to follow the safety rules and be as careful as possible. Standing on the edge of the plateau, it seems that Prekestulen is about to collapse. This feeling complements the formed gorge between the cliff and the mountain, the size of which is increasing every year. It is likely that the gorge will become a cliff collapse, and one day it will fall into the sea. Therefore, you should hurry up to taste the famous Prekestulen cliff. Although, according to legend, this will happen only when seven brothers and seven sisters get married in one region of Norway. Another legend says that executions and sacrifices were carried out at the top of the cliff.
Today, Prekestulen is in demand by many travelers, hundreds of thousands of them come here every year. Tourists are also interested in the fact that the cliff offers a beautiful view of the Kjerag plateau, which is famous for the pea stone stuck between two rocks.
Fans of extreme sensations are offered base camping services, which are carried out both from Prekestoolen and Kjeraga.
