Arashiyama
Arashiyama is the most scenic area in Kyoto, a popular attraction with a rich history and a natural monument of Japan. There is a bamboo grove here, which has an alternative name as the Sagano bamboo forest. The place is carefully protected by the state. Locals say it is especially beautiful here during cherry blossoms.
Brief description
Arashiyama Bamboo Grove resembles a small park. It covers an area of 16 square kilometers. Most of the area is covered with bamboo. Plants reach a height of up to 50 meters. It seems that they cover the sky. And the thicket seems impenetrable, but this is only a delusion. Against its background, picturesque photographs are obtained. This attracts many bloggers from different countries.
There is a whole network of paths in Arashiyama. At night, they are illuminated with artificial light. This was done to make Arashiyama's visitors feel comfortable. The place is popular among both locals and visitors to Japan, with approximately 30 million people visiting each year.
Basic information
You can come to Arashiyama Grove at any time of the day. There is no need to pay anyone anything to enter the territory. It is possible to walk around the park in 30 minutes, but visitors spend more time to admire the beauty and grandeur of nature, breathe fresh air and take a few photographs for memory. Visitors are advised to come to Arashiyama either early in the morning or in the evening. During these intervals there is not a large influx of visitors, which can distract during rest. At the entrance to the park there is a shop where you can find bamboo souvenirs. Bicycle rental is open, you can rent and ride around the grove, the main thing is not to get lost in an unfamiliar area.
Historical data
Official sources say that Arashiyama arose in the 14th century. Muso Soseki is considered the founder of the picturesque park area. He was a master of the Rinzai Zen school and an expert in gardening art. The park is classified as a soundscape, so the Japanese government carefully protects the area. When the wind blows, the stems and leaves of bamboo creak and hit each other, creating a kind of natural symphony. People come from all over the world to hear the “singing of the forest.”
Creative people say it's easy to find inspiration in Arashiyama. A thicket of bamboo inspires painting, creating poems and helps to abstract from the everyday hustle and bustle. Also in this area is the Tenryu-ji Buddhist Temple. They belong to historical monuments that are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Nearby there is a pond with fish.
