Grottoes of Rosh HaNikra
Rosh Hashanah grottoes are considered one of the most beautiful places on the planet, according to tourists. The complex is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a combination of clear clear water and snow-white rocks. The tremors split the limestone ridge from the inside. The water washed out the crevices, and caves 200 meters wide appeared.
Basic information
A tunnel began to be dug in the mountain in 1941. A year later, a railway was built nearby, but in 1948 the tunnel was blown up by a detachment of the Haganah. After the war, people began to come to this place to rest. In order to facilitate tourists' access to Rosh Hashanah, an observation gallery of about 400 meters was pierced into the rock in 1868. All safety requirements have been met.
Over time, a cable car was built to the Rosh Hashanah caves to facilitate the descent from the mountain to the tunnels. The cable car has 2 trailers, each of which can accommodate up to 15 people. Rosh Hashanah is now a nature reserve protected by the State. This place is perfect for family excursions.
Information for tourists
When going to the grottoes of Rosh Hashanah, it is advisable to wear sports shoes with non-slip soles. The stones at the descent to the water may be wet. To get to the caves, you need to ride the cable car for 1 minute at an altitude of 70 meters. The angle of inclination is 60%.
You can get to Rosh Hashanah by car along the fourth highway or by train or bus. You need to get off at Nahariya station and walk to Lohamei ha-Getaot, where there are taxi stands that will take you to your destination. In summer, the complex is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, from November 1 and until the end of winter ‒ from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shortened schedule is relevant for pre-holidays. On Saturdays and holidays, tourists are expected from 9.00 to 18.00. If it rains heavily outside, the cable car will not work for safety reasons.
The natural grottoes of Rosh Hashanah are 200 meters long, and the artificial tunnel is 400 meters long. You can buy a ticket for the tour, including bike rental. There are no driving instructors, so the service is relevant for those who already know how to drive a two-wheeled vehicle.
