The Golan Heights joined Israel in 1981, and their area is almost 2,000 square kilometers. The mountainous plateau of volcanic origin is considered a strategic site with a developed hydrogeographic network. River water flows into Jordan and Lake Tiberias, which is one of the main sources of drinking water for the inhabitants of the country. The highest point in the Israeli-controlled part of the Golan Heights is Mount Hermon, 2,236 meters high.

Basic information

Archaeologists have discovered biblical and medieval monuments. Ancient finds can be viewed at the Museum of the Golan Antiquities and the Israel Museum, which is located in Jerusalem. The most ancient sights are the Spirit Wheel and the megalith. In the 19th century, the ruins of synagogues with Jewish symbols were discovered, which once again proves that Jews used to live on this land. Today, the population is about 20,000 people, and there is almost no unemployment.

There are many nature reserves in the Golan Heights. There is a favorable soil for agricultural work: for example, for growing grapes, apples, cherries, raspberries and strawberries. Fruits are exported, and thermal springs are located in the southwest. In 2015, an oil field with an estimated volume of more than 1 billion barrels was discovered in this place.
