Keoladeo
Keoladeo National Park is located in northern India, the main feature of which is a huge variety of birds. The park, which includes plains, savannahs, forests and swamps, covers an area of more than 28 km2. This is one of the most important wintering places feathered. In winter, it serves as a home for many rare and endangered species of birds, which make up more than 370 species.
However, the local inhabitants did not always feel so free, before it was a hunting territory where the Maharajas hunted birds. At the beginning of the twentieth century, a hunt was committed, during which more than 4 thousand ducks and geese were shot. At one local temple there is an inscription recording this event with the names of hunters and their trophies. Only after 20 years, after gaining independence, the situation has fundamentally changed. The territory received the title of bird reserve, hunting was banned altogether. Since 1982, – is the Keoladeo National Park. The first direction was the planting of acacia and the creation of the necessary conditions for the population of fauna representatives. Since 1985, Keoladeo has been a component of UNESCO's natural inheritance.
Today, approximately 4 thousand trees are growing in the territory, providing birds with nesting houses. The main dominant ones are acacia and date palms. In the circle there are a large number of shallow lakes where waterfowl live. The main ones are cormorants, herons, pelicans, ducks and geese. The bird of a rare species of rods feels good. These white cranes winter in the reserve, despite their usual dwelling in Northern Russia.
In the territory of the Keoladeo Park, there are many predators – eagles, falcons, and korshuns. In addition to birds, a wide variety of mammals are found in the entire circumference of the park - hyenas, antelopes, monkeys, wild boars. There are poisonous cobra. Many local inhabitants are listed in the Red Book.
In the Keoladeo National Park, the history, culture of India intertwined with the beauty of nature and its inhabitants. It is interesting for visiting both tourists and scientists. To get acquainted with representatives of the fauna and see the maximum number of birds, to visit the park you should take into account their winter migration and choose the time from October to February.
