Marqueyssac Gardens
In one of the regions of France, called Dordogne, there is a small town of Vesac, which became famous for its ancient landmark, which is the castle of Marchessac, as well as the charming hanging gardens located around it.
The gardens in this area were founded back in the 17th century for the aristocrats who managed the estate. All the time they have been arranging the local area for romantic walks, pleasant rest and reception of guests. This territory was constantly being transformed, replenished with new shrubs, which the gardeners gave a very interesting look of strict geometric shapes. Le Notre, who became the founder of the landscape school of that time, worked on the unique design of the park.
Boxwood trees were planted in the Marquessac garden in the 19th century, by order of the owner, who returned from Italy and decided to decorate his estate. It was then that thousands of shrubs were planted in the garden, between which paths meandered, which the members of the Serval family loved to walk, as well as all the guests of the palace. It was at this time that the Marquessac gardens were filled with unusual beauty, which was created by various alleys and stone gazebos.
The Marchessack Castle, with its adjacent gardens, was opened to the public in 1996, when the local reconstruction was completed. During the renewal of the gardens, the photographs of the original appearance were kept. Today, this is the most interesting attraction in France, which attracts true connoisseurs of garden art.
More than one thousand hundred-year-old boxwoods, which are carefully trimmed by caring gardeners, as well as various chapels and rotundas, are presented to the guests of the park. Stone huts are built here, which is an integral part of the design of the garden ensemble.
But besides the rounded shape of the man-made trees, there are wonderful oak forests where the paths are paved with stone. After walking in the park, you can relax at the green rooms that are located near the streams. Interesting sculptures of animals and birds made of metal that hide near the branches of ancient trees will give a special highlight to the Marquessac Garden.
In addition to man-made natural attractions, there are many other fascinating places in the park, including a turning workshop, where, if desired, you can carve a charming souvenir from the local boxwood.
There are also playgrounds on the territory of the Markessak Garden, where the youngest visitors have fun.
