Hyde Park

Hyde Park is a wonderful royal park that is located in the heart of the capital of England. London's largest park acquired its royal status back in 1536.

Hyde Park

As for its history, it dates back to the reign of Henry VIII, when he took this territory from Westminster Abbey and established hunting grounds here. Hyde Park became accessible to the public under James I, which dates back to the 17th century.

The subsequent king endowed the Rotten Row road, which crosses the park territory, with special importance. Often, in the evening, under the light of numerous lamps, representatives of the English nobility liked to walk along it, because it led from St. James's Palace to Kensington. In 1730, a pond was excavated in the park, the shape of which resembled a snake. The lake was given the name "Serpentine". But closer to our time, a gallery called Serpentine opens here, where modern art is presented.

Nowadays, numerous sculptures can be seen in the park, including the famous Achilles pedestal, built in 1822. There is also the Wellington Museum and the Wellington Arch, which are presented as historically important objects, as they were dedicated to the great victory over the Napoleonic forces. In 1872, a speakers' corner was organized in Hyde Park, as a law was passed at that time allowing freedom of speech. Everyone who wanted to express their opinion on any topic gathered here. Even nowadays, every day, starting at 12:00, speeches are held here, both by politicians and ordinary people, without turning off various oddballs.

Another major attraction of London's Hyde Park is the ancient cemetery where pets are buried. The cemetery was organized on the initiative of the Duke of Cambridge to bury deceased pets, which were lovingly cared for by his wife.

Nowadays Hyde Park is very visited, both by locals and tourists from different countries. You won't be bored here, because a wide variety of exhibitions, as well as parades, concerts, and theatrical performances are regularly held on its territory. Outdoor sports enthusiasts have the opportunity to play tennis, volleyball, and soccer, as there are playgrounds equipped for this. If desired, you can ride a horse along the well-known Rotten Row. Here you can swim in the local lake or relax on the green lawn. London's Hyde Park is always crowded and fun.
