The Utah Museum of Art (UMFA) has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Exhibitions are held regularly, and the permanent collection consists of approximately 20,000 works of art. Admission is usually free for everyone on the first Wednesday and the third Saturday of the month.
History of creation
In the early 1900s, an art gallery appeared, featuring paintings by local artists. Over the following decades, the University of Utah was presented with a large number of art objects. In 1951, University President Albert Ray Olpin established the gallery as the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.
In 2001, the institution moved to the building named after Marcia and John Price, who was a diplomat and businessman, so the landmark is named after them. In 2005, the Utah Museum of Art (UMFA) was officially declared a public institution.

In 1993, the Utah Museum of Art (UMFA) received a gift of the painting "Young Men in Love", which was painted in the 18th century by Francois Boucher in Rococo style. It was later revealed that it had been stolen during the Holocaust. The employees of the state institution returned the work to the heirs of its original owner. This was reported in the media, the owner's relatives were grateful to UMFA for such a broad gesture.
In addition to displaying the permanent collection at the Utah Museum of Art (UMFA)Temporary exhibitions are being organized. On average, they change once every 2-3 months. For example, the Kleverland Museum organized an Impressionist exhibition here. Lectures, tours, film screenings, projects for families with children and other educational programs are being launched. The museum has a cafe and a shop, and you can visit them even without visiting the art objects at the exhibition.
How to get
The Utah Museum of Art (UMFA) operates on the University of Utah campus, which is located near Rice-Eccles Stadium. Buses No9 stop nearby, 17, 213, 223, 228, 313, 354, 455, and also 473. If you take TRAX public transport, you should get off at the University's South Campus station. You can get there by taxi or private/rented car.
Admission up to and including 5 years is free, children and seniors receive a discount when buying a ticket. Admission is free for everyone on the first Wednesday and the third Saturday of the month. The museum welcomes visitors on weekends from 11.00 to 17.00, from Tuesday to Friday from 10.00 to 17.00, on Wednesday from 10.00 to 20.00. It is recommended to allocate about 1-2 hours of free time to inspect the main expositions.
