Burano

Burano is one of the main islands of the Venetian lagoon, along with the island of Murano and Torcello. Since this is an island, you can get to it by boat or boat. Burano is famous all over the world for its bright colors, every house on this island is painted in bright colors. Centuries ago, when fishing was the main activity on the island, fishermen needed to be able to return home from the lagoon even in fog, so they decided to paint their houses with bright colors so they could see them from afar.

Local delicacies

Because Burano is an island, seafood is a specialty of the region. Restaurants throughout Burano serve freshly caught fish from the surrounding lagoon and the Adriatic Sea, as well as local delicacies including cod cooked in oil or cuttlefish cooked in its ink.

Famous craft

At present, a colored house is no longer a necessity, it is a tradition that residents do not want to lose. Even if Burano is a small island, there is something to see here, in addition to colorful houses. This tiny island is also known for the skill and talent of its artisans, whose works of art became famous throughout Europe in the 16th century. For a long time, men were engaged in fishing, and women wove fishing nets for them. Over time, they began to weave lace, to decorate household items and not only. Therefore, it is no coincidence that the Lace Museum is located here, and not in the historical center of Venice.

Burano

Special belfry

Another thing that Burano is famous for is the sloping bell tower, which was built in the 17th century and is located next to the church of San Martino. This Roman Catholic church was built in the 16th century and is 53 meters high. The best place to admire Burano's bell tower is Terranova's marble bridge. It's amazing how tilted she really is. It seems that she will fall at any moment, but she is in perfect balance.

Mazzorbo Island

You can cross the wooden bridge from Burano to the islet of Mazzorbo. Here is the walled vineyard of Venissa, surrounded by medieval monastery walls, as well as a Michelin-starred restaurant. There is a 14th century bell tower located on the grounds next to the 11th century church of San Michele Arcangelo. Of the ten original churches on the island of Mazzorbo, only this one has survived.
