Oydonk Castle

Brief description

Oydonk Castle was built at the turn of the 13th century in honor of the famous Nevel family, it was used by them as the family estate. Later, the building passed from hand to hand until it finally became the property of the Rodenbeck family, which still owns the castle to this day. The family expanded the property by 450 square meters and also carried out significant renovation work. But it should be said that the external and internal appearance of Oydonk Castle remained the same. It is built in a classic European style with Flemish-Renaissance overtones, which are characteristic of many buildings in Belgium and Germany. The architectural appearance is in many ways reminiscent of numerous German defensive castles, which were also built in Belgium during the reign of the famous King Leopold II.

Features of Oydonk Castle

It should be noted that this castle is one of the most popular castles to visit in all of Belgium, but there is one caveat - the castle museum and the castle itself are partially open to the public only on weekends. There are VIP services for renting the castle grounds, as well as holding weddings and other celebrations here. Particularly popular is the museum, which is located inside Oydonk Castle. The museum consists of several halls in which visitors can get acquainted with the works of various Belgian and German artists, as well as see interior items and kitchen utensils of the 18-19 centuries.
