Sagano Bamboo Forest
The amazing bamboo forest in Japan, called Sagano, or, as it is also called, bamboo grove, has the appearance of a charming alley decorated with bamboo trees leaning up, that they are so appreciated in this country. These plants, lined up in even rows, resemble an army of quiet soldiers. Such an amazing attraction of the country of the rising sun is located in the city of Kyoto, in the territory of Arashiyama Park.
The beauty of this area, of course, is incomparable, but Sagano also gives fame to the bamboo forest a unique rustle that occurs when winds blow. This sound that occurs when the wind comes in contact with bamboo stems resembles some kind of calm melody and is very pacifying. It is for this reason that the Japanese leadership has recorded these bamboo sounds to a hundred state-protected attractions.
This delightful bamboo forest has an area of 16 km2. Even neat paths intertwine on the territory of the grove, with which guests of this area walk with pleasure. On the edges of the wonderful paths, there are so-called railing that they created from the fallen bamboo branches.
Bamboo, a common species throughout the country, – « Moso », grows in the Japanese forest of Sagano. This tree has unusual properties for other plants – grow to 20 meter high, in just a month. The highest bamboo trees in this forest reach 40 meters, with their diameter – 35 cm.
The bamboo forest of Sagano was created in the XIV century by a monk who was well known about the art of gardening. There is also a pond on the territory of the grove, around which you can take a walk along the local alley. On one side of the pond are temple complexes, and on the other side are mountains.
In Japan, however, as in other countries of the east, bamboo is endowed with a special symbolic meaning. It is not for nothing that bamboo groves are often located near temple buildings, because they, by faith, are protected from evil spirits. In the city of Sagano, local craftsmen have adapted to make various baskets, boxes, and dishes from this amazing tree.
On the paths of bamboo grove you can walk, enjoying this area, or take a bike ride. The Bamboo Forest in the evening has a particularly fabulous appearance, when the paths that cut the highest trees have a pleasant backlight.
You can go around the whole Sagano forest in just 20 minutes, but these sensations, donated by melody of bamboo trees, are simply unforgettable, they will remain in your heart forever.
