Kiyosumi Garden

Kiyosumi is a wonderful Japanese garden where both residents of the city and its guests like to spend time. This corner of paradise has found its place in Tokyo. During the Edo period, a merchant's garden was located on the local territory, but later (1878-1885) it was acquired and improved by Iwasaki Yataro, who was the founder of the famous Mitsubishi financial empire. It was taken over by the state in 1932, when it became publicly accessible to visitors.

Kiyosumi Garden covers a total area of 81,00 ^m2. In the middle of the garden there is a large Sensui pond, which accommodates three islands. On the shore of this pond there are tea houses that are famous for their tea ceremonies. Amazing pine trees grow along the edge of the reservoir, thanks to which the garden has acquired a particularly charming appearance. Their unique reflection in the mirrored surface of the water is simply fascinating. The pond is full of life, birds feel great here, singing songs and jumping from branch to branch, turtles crawl slowly, and fish swim nimbly. Also, many aquatic birds have fallen in love with this area, including a large number of ducks, gulls, and herons. To make it convenient to observe the life of animals, there are wonderful bridges here, which are known as iso-watari, which are built of stones. They make it possible to walk almost on the water, watching the underwater world.

Kiyosumi contains a large number of stones of various shapes, which were brought to this territory from various parts of the country. So many stones were used to implement Kiyosumi's idea that you can call it a stone garden. One of the local monuments has a carved inscription that belongs to the famous haiku by Basho, which talks about a pond and a frog.
