Gir National Park

There is a nature reserve in the northern part of India, which is known as the Gir Forest. This area is the most important natural area in all of Asia. The total area that he owns is 1,153 km2, but about 258 km2 of the area is under special supervision.

The Girsky forest has a magnificent flora and fauna. The reserve is the only area inhabited by Indian lions, after which it was named.

The air temperature in the Girsky forest is represented by fairly high thermometer readings. During the summer heat, it can rise to 43 degrees Celsius. Here, the hot, stuffy weather is often replaced by rainy seasons that last for several months. At this time, the forest simply floats from the flow of water. But there are periods when the rains bypass this area and there is a prolonged drought everywhere, which lasts for a whole year.

As many as seven rivers run through the territory of the Girsky forest, on which dams are built. With the help of these structures on the water, reservoirs are formed, among which there is the largest in the entire region. At least 300 watering holes have been improved for local wildlife. When there is a drought in the territory, water shortage is the main problem here, which is being tried to solve first of all. The only hope at this time is pinned on the reservoirs of the Gira.

The most comfortable time in the Girsky forest is considered to be the period from the end of autumn to the beginning of spring. At this time, you can comfortably relax here and admire the beauty of nature.

Sasan-Gir is the name of the local forest, where trees of mixed type grow, among which teak prevails. There are also areas of thorny shrubs and evergreen plantings. There are about 400 species of plants in the reserve.

There are quite a few animals on the territory of the Girsky forest, among which there are quite rare species of herbivores, as well as reptiles. The birds of the reserve are represented in an extensive variety, there are as many as 6 species of vulture. The park is also proud of large animals, including leopards, hyenas, jackals and many other wonderful quadrupeds.

But, of course, the most important animal responsible for the creation of the reserve in India in 1965 is the Asian lion. If at the time of the founding of the Girsky forest there were no more than 200 individuals, then closer to 2001 they multiplied to 325, and 4 years later 359 lions were counted here.
