Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
Lens Maranensis is a national park in Brazil, located in the state of Maranhão. This area is not much above sea level and is covered with sand, which in some places reaches up to 40 meters. During the rainy season, numerous lagoons appear between the sand dunes. The entire reserve covers an area of about 1000 km2, which is sparsely covered with vegetation. The reserve, in order to preserve this area, was organized in 1981.
The Lens Maranensis Nature Reserve has a great similarity with the desert area. This area is regularly watered by numerous rains in early summer. Rainwater usually fills various valleys and gaps between the dunes, forming bluish-green lagoons. This place is famous for the wildlife of reservoirs. It is here that a fairly large number of fish live, despite the fact that sometimes reservoirs completely dry up. Fish eggs are brought here by seabirds.
In the reserve you can find landscapes that attract tourists very much. These are magnificent beaches with palm trees. Lagoa Azul, which is 1.5 meters deep, is recognized as the most beautiful lake in the Lens Maranensis Park. But to enjoy its scenery, you need to use the services of a local guide, as it is well and far hidden in the park.
The most beautiful area of the entire reserve is the oasis of Quemada dos Brutos, but to see it, you need to overcome the path, which is 4 hours of time. The best time to tour this area is in the evening, when the sun is not shining so brightly.
It is very convenient to get to the Lens Maranensis National Reserve from San Luis, from where bus services run. Admission to the park itself is free, but there are entertainment options that you will need to pay for. Among the paid pleasures are cycling, as well as sandboarding.
