Purnululu National Park

Sandy wastelands are the main reason for the origin of the park's name: in the Aboriginal language, "purnululu" means "sandstone". There is also Bangl-Bangl, the name of the same name as the mountain range located in the park. All 2.3 thousand square meters is a paradise for archaeologists. Of course, Purnululu is a paradise for archaeologists.: here and there are burials of cattle breeders and peasants mixed with petroglyphs – rock paintings that graphically tell about the simple life of the aborigines.

Bangl Bangl Mountains

The Bangl-Bangl Mountains are a shrine of the aborigines, which correctly sounds like "Bangl-Bangl - Billingjal" in their language, which translates as "falling sand". For the time being, the progressive part of humanity, tourists, did not know anything about the existence of Bangl-Bangl. The mountains would have remained in oblivion, peacefully side by side with the aborigines, but in 1982, to their misfortune, a group of inspired filmmakers flew right over them for another shoot. Having a natural aesthetic taste, they appreciated the picturesque panoramas that opened up, resembling bee hives in shape. The height of some mountains reaches 578 meters and impresses the imagination with its alternating layers. It's because of cyanobacteria - there are a lot of oxidized iron compounds in the orange layers, which dry quickly and bacteria cannot develop on them, and the gray stripes are a product of bacterial activity, where there is a lot of moisture.

There is no consensus about the origin of Bangl-Bangl. At least, among scientists who are settled thinkers. The aborigines are simpler: they are not inclined to be wise. Bangl-Bangl is, in their opinion, the skin of a giant "rainbow" snake. You might be surprised, of course: What a sight to behold. However, in this uncomplicated folk legend there is the tranquility of thousands of years, which the aborigines have absorbed into themselves. And what do you say to that: you won't find anything like it in the whole wide world. Therefore, maybe it really is "skin".

Purnululu National Park

Everywhere you look, there is scant vegetation around the mountains and life itself seemed to have even stopped. The plain comes to life a little closer to the Ord, the only river in the area. Nevertheless, here you can find thickets of ferns, spinifex plantations, and a lot of orchids. Acacias, palm trees, grevialleias and eucalyptus trees grow in Purnululu. In total, more than 650 different species of plants, 150 species of birds, and 40 species of mammals can be found in the national park. In Purnululu, tourists are sure to meet other aborigines: running, crawling, jumping – a Dingo dog, a merciless monitor lizard, a mountain kangaroo, as well as a rapidly rushing gray falcon and a colorful parrot.
