Skye Island

Skye is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides group. It is located on the northwest side of Scotland, representing the whole country in miniature. In translation, Skye means "Island of Mists", which is true, since the island is often covered with thick fogs, and the climate is humid with frequent precipitation. According to National Geographic magazine, the Isle of Skye is one of the most beautiful islands on the planet.

On the small territory of the island, various landscapes with blue lakes, steep cliffs, hills, peat bogs, forests, waterfalls and ancient castles appear in all their glory. Palm trees and rhododendrons grow here. Breathtaking landscapes together with ancient castles are the basis of romantic trips.

It is the fourth most populous island in the UK, with about 10,000 inhabitants. The largest settlement on the island is the city of Portree.

The Isle of Skye was first mentioned in the 2nd century AD, which was etched on roadside stones and preserved to this day. The highest point of the island is the peak of Mount Kulin, rising 993 meters above sea level. The Kulin Mountains are called the Scottish Alps.

The island's architecture consists of many castles. Dunvegan is considered the most famous – the ancestral fortress of the Scottish MacLeod clan, representatives of this offspring still live in it, and at the same time it is open to tourists. Family heirlooms are kept here – the Fairy Flag and the Dunvegan Bowl. The island's attractions also include four castles belonging to the MacDonald heirs.

On the northern side there is a Museum of the island's Life, consisting of seven houses built in the 19th century. It provides expositions of household items.

The Isle of Skye is considered the birthplace of Talisker whiskey and the most loyal dogs of the Skye Terrier breed.

This is a favorite vacation spot for the indigenous population and guests. The local nature has been favored by creative people – photographers, writers, poets, musicians, the beauty of the area gives them inspiration to create masterpieces. There are many art galleries throughout the territory.

Mountaineering enthusiasts come from all over the world. Boat trips are offered, during which you can see fur seals, dolphins, and whales. Various types of water sports are available. You can ride a pony.

There are two ways to visit the Isle of Skye: by bridge or by ferry.
