Shenandoah National Park
Shenandoah is a US national park in Virginia. In the western side, the park limits the rivers, and from the eastern mountain of Piedmont. The park was founded in 1935 on an area of 805 km2, and the highest point is Mount Hawksbill ( 1235 meters ).
Prior to the founding of Shenandoah Park, there were many farms in this territory and the authorities had to buy possession from farmers by force. Therefore, the remains of ancient farms are often found in the park. Almost all farmers working in orchards and growing cereals to the last resisted eviction, they were not even stopped by crop failures in 1930 and subsequently resettled by force. Nevertheless, some were allowed to stay in the national park until they die.
Soon after the foundation of the park, they decided to prohibit visits to the park of blacks, but then they allowed, but pre-distributed places for whites and blacks. In the 1930s, private hotels worked, but only white was allowed to spend the night in them. By 1939, the current had opened a hotel for blacks, in which there was a campground and places for picnics. In 1945, the leadership of Shenandoah Park called for the abolition of racial dominance of whites in the park, but finally eliminated this inconvenience of blacks was possible only in 1950.
The local waterfalls are the pride of Shenandoah National Park. Overoll-Run with a drop height of 29 meters is the highest and most beautiful of all. But to get to it you have to get off the road and go about 5 km to it.
Pines grow on the southwestern and southern slopes, cacti can be found on the hills. In the northeast slope, forests from the shrink come across, which the moss has chosen. Oaks, cotton benches, chikori, maples, tulip liriodendrons, chestnuts, mountain laurels, ferns also come across.
From animals often comes deer, black bears, lynxes, raccoons, possums, forest surges, gray foxes, rabbits. Over two hundred varieties of birds live in the park. And rivers and lakes were chosen by 32 species of fish.
A highway is laid in the park along the ridge. Along the entire road, observation points have been built, the foot paths walking along the slope of the ridge depart from them. On the lands of Shenandoah Park there are 5 camping places and 3 hotels, as well as horse riding routes and for lovers of cycling through the forest.
