Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah is a US national park in Virginia. In the western side, the park limits the rivers, and from the eastern mountain of Piedmont. The park was founded in 1935 on an area of 805 km2, and the highest point is Mount Hawksbill ( 1235 meters ).

Prior to the founding of Shenandoah Park, there were many farms in this territory and the authorities had to buy possession from farmers by force. In the 1930s, private hotels worked, but only white was allowed to spend the night in them. By 1939, the current had opened a hotel for blacks, in which there was a campground and places for picnics. In 1945, the leadership of Shenandoah Park called for the abolition of racial dominance of whites in the park, but finally eliminated this inconvenience of blacks was possible only in 1950.

On the lands of Shenandoah Park there are 5 camping places and 3 hotels, as well as horse riding routes and for lovers of cycling through the forest.
