Selous

The Selous Hunting Reserve – is the largest protected area owned by Tanzania. This reserve occupies 5 percent of the entire territory of the country and is located on its southeast side.

Reservat Selus was organized in 1905 and named after Courtney Selus, who was a famous zoologist and botanist. He gave this reserve many years of his life, studying it and making little effort to preserve the local nature.

This delightful hunting reserve of Selus accommodates rivers on its territory, rocky formations, there are also leaf-bang forests and magnificent meadows. More than half of elephants from all over the country live in the park. Many other animals also feel good in the reserve, including buffaloes, zebras, rhinos, lions and many other representatives of the animal world of Africa. In total, the Selus hunting reserve has at least two hundred species of various species of animals. Also a wide variety of birds in the Selus Park. With their bright color, they attract great attention from travelers, and birds, as if exhibits in the museum, are not located high on tree branches and pose on cameras. The main attraction among the animal world in the reserve is long-necked giraffes, which gathered here more than anywhere else in Africa. Numerous swamps are filled with crocodiles, which can be seen during a water safari.

Fishing is allowed in the reserve, here you can not only calmly ride a boat on the water, but also engage in fascinating rafting, which is facilitated by mountain rivers.

The most suitable time to travel to Selus is from June to October. The air temperature at this time is at around 25 degrees Celsius and does not rain.

For tourists in the park, equipped special tents where you can spend the night, as well as take a shower. There are also cafes and restaurants in the tourist area, but, as a rule, the so-called buffet is offered here.
