Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is a building that is the center of the whole of London. It is the seat of government, including the Queen of England herself, where she not only works, but also lives with her family. The Royal Palace in Westminster often holds official receptions, various ceremonies, as well as banquets. It is always crowded here, especially during celebrations or popular unrest. Buckingham Palace is also a major tourist attraction throughout the country.
The history of Buckingham Palace dates back to 1703. It was at this time that the palace was erected for the Duke of Buckingham and was named Buckingham House. It is noted in the historical literature that it was the most delightful house in the whole country. Later, the palace was sold, and in 1837, it was here that Queen Victoria ascended the throne, and the castle itself was declared the main residence of the British government. During her reign, Buckingham Palace began to transform and become similar to the one we are witnessing now. His appearance has acquired a creamy-golden tone, and some rooms are well furnished with Chinese–style furniture imported from the palaces of Brighton and Carlton House. The residence of the monarchs also boasts a magnificent garden and artificial ponds located on its territory.
Today's Buckingham Palace is known all over the world. Various dinners, lunches, and receptions are held on its territory, the guests of which are honorary people from all over the world, of whom there are more than 50 thousand every year. Buckingham Palace is famous for its royal ceremonies, which include the opening ceremonies of parliamentary sessions, as well as the Queen's birthday celebrations.
The changing of the guard is a daily celebration that also attracts many tourists, which begins in April and ends in August. This is a colorful costume parade that lasts approximately 45 minutes, accompanied by an orchestra. It takes place on the main square, in front of the palace entrance. The main point of this event, which features beautifully decorated guards in red uniforms and bear hats, is to replace the old guard with a new one. The palace is guarded by a court division, which includes an infantry regiment, as well as an equestrian one.
Back in 1961, a gallery was built here, which was later opened to the public. Now you can see excellent works by talented artists, including paintings by Rembrandt and Rubens.
Buckingham Palace has a swimming pool, a post office, and a cinema. During the period when the Queen does not live here (two months a year), it is open to the public. The fact that the royal person is in her chambers is indicated by the flag that towers over the castle.
