The pond is also decorated with huge green eucalyptus trees, which look especially beautiful against the pink background of the water. A narrow strip of sand dunes separates this pink lake surface from the ocean.

The unusual Lake Hiller in Australia was discovered by a navigator from Britain back in 1802. Matthew Flinders, who was on his way to Sydney, decided to stop at this island for a rest. He immediately noticed an unusual natural body of water, which was different in color.

After some time, the first people settled here, who were mainly seal hunters, as well as whalers.

Around the beginning of the twentieth century, and for six years, salt was actively mined here. Since the lake did not bring much benefit, they forgot about it for a while.

In 1950, an expedition was sent to Lake Hiller, the purpose of which was the reason for the unusual color of the water. Before the results of the examination, it was believed that the color of the water depends on local algae.

The scientists were surprised when their guesses were not confirmed by more than one analysis. The mystery of the color of the waters of Lake Hiller still remains unsolved, which attracts the special attention of tourists.

Lake Hiller holds a legend that is known by a small number of seafarers and an even smaller number of ordinary residents. This legend tells us that around the 17th century, a ship was wrecked underwater. Only one sailor managed to survive, who ended up on the island with a considerable number of injuries. The injured sailor could hardly move, because every movement brought him hellish pain. The sailor, after suffering for several weeks, shouted: "I will sell my soul to the devil, if only this torment would stop!". It was at this time that an unusual man came out of the bushes, holding two filled jugs in his hands – one with milk and the other with blood. He poured the liquid from one and the second jug into the lake and said that if you bathe in this water, you can forget about pain and hunger. The sailor entered the unusual pink water and plunged headlong, and when he came out, the strange man was gone, and there was really no pain or hunger. By the way, the name of the lake sounds like a Healer in English.
