Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty in the USA is a symbol of democracy and the main attraction of the country. The architectural monument, with which the state declares its independence, was donated by the French in honor of the centennial of the revolution in America.

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is located on the island to which the monument's name was eventually attached, Liberty Island. Here, in the south of Manhattan, she was identified, taking into account the wishes of the famous French sculptor who created this masterpiece. Previously, on Bedlow Island, as it was called in the past, there was a military ford, the walls of which are the basis of architectural creation.

The Statue of Liberty has a height of 93 meters, which includes its base with a pedestal. Until the high-rise buildings of Manhattan were erected, the statue was considered the tallest structure in all of New York.

The statue depicts a woman whose leg has been freed from shackles, solemnly clutching a torch in one hand and holding a tablet in the other. There is an inscription on the tablet where the date of signing of the Declaration of Independence of America is indicated.

The funds spent on the construction of the architectural monument were collected jointly by the two countries, which at that time experienced some financial difficulties. Thanks to the lavish charity events organized by both the Americans and the French, the necessary money was raised for the construction of the planned building.

The pedestal, which was made by the American side, was ready on April 22, 1886, and the female statue itself was provided by France a year earlier.

The unveiling of the Statue of Liberty was, of course, a solemn event attended by many spectators. This action took place in the autumn season in 1886.

Due to its size, from the very first day, the statue served as an excellent landmark, and also acted as a lighthouse. It was only in 1924 that the Statue of Liberty was declared a national monument in the United States. Since 1984, the architectural monument has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Register.

Behind the walls of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty there is a museum, which provides detailed information about this architectural monument of culture. The statue has a special staircase that allows you to climb to the crown itself. This place offers a magnificent view of the entire harbor of New York.

Of course, the Statue of Liberty means a lot to the United States, and almost every New York City tour is complete without visiting this landmark. This wonderful celebrity of the USA is the most visited architectural monument in the whole world.
