Fort Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh Fort is located in the Indian city of the same name. It was built in the 7th century AD and for a long time was the main residence of the Mewar rulers. The area of the fort is 28 km2, the height above the terrain is 180 meters.

Fort Chittorgarh

During its existence, Chittorgarh was captured three times by the Mughals. After many days of capture, many Rajput warriors died in fierce battles. The queen, followed by the women and children, committed suicide – the ritual self-immolation of jauhar.

Today it is a monument of courage and defiance. Despite its tragic history, visiting the fort brings only positive emotions. Its main attractions are the ancient cathedrals, the ruins of various palaces, many gates, as well as the Vijaya Stambha Tower, which has 8 floors up to 40 meters high. The Vijaya Stambha Tower was given the second name Victory Column, its main decoration is carvings and bas-reliefs. After climbing the steep steps, you can climb to the top.

Fort Chittorgarh

The Chittorgarh Fort housed an entire ensemble consisting of 130 architectural buildings, today only some of them have been preserved, the rest are represented in the form of ruins. The most ancient is the Rana Kumbha Palace, where the poetess Rani Mira lived and worked.

Temples are decorated with images of women, animals, and warriors. Often, at this hour, a large number of monkeys are waiting for guests near the cathedrals, as they have settled here, having chosen the area.

During the construction of the Chittorgarh fort, 84 reservoirs were built in the form of wells, ponds, where Buddha figures were depicted. Reservoirs were filled naturally due to precipitation. Today, only 22 of them remain, where local residents wash their clothes.

The walls of the Chittorgarh Fortress are 13 km long. There are places where rulers are cremated.

There is also an "Old Town" where residents live a normal village life, and cows and sheep graze near the ruins of the fort. We can say that they still have the same standard of living, except that instead of invaders, they are being chased by tourists with flashlights. Every year there is a festival dedicated to the memory of the ancestors.

This place is considered sacred to all Hindus.
